Haugesund er tuftet på sild og shipping.
Sjø og skip er en naturlig del av livet vårt og har vært
det siden byens barndom, noe bildet over minner oss om. Bygningene på
Kortanes er blant de eldste som er bevart i Haugesund. Den gamle havnebåten
og Johanne Karine ligger klar til enda en sommer hvor de skal være
med op å opprettholde byens maritime image.

The foundation of Haugesund is herring
and shipping and nothing is more natural for us than sea and ships. The
above picture, with roots back to early Haugesund, reminds us of that.
The buildings on Kortanes are among the oldest that are kept in our town.
Here the old harbor authorities service boat and the sail ship "Johanne
Karine" are moored and ready to help Haugesund in keeping its maritime
image.

The customs authorities
used this fine ship in the old days. Now, as a sennior citizen, it
has got a brand new radar and a new life as a sightseeing boat in the harbor
areas..
