i gang. For selv om de kaller det tjuvstart, er det vel først og
fremst samlingen av gamle båter ved Indre kai vi forbinder med Havnedagene.
Og når 55 båter seiler inn i Smedasundet
og fortøyer, anført av den nyrestaurerte
gamle havnebåten, er utstillingen allerede blitt severdig. I
løpet av fredagen ankommer enda flere, attraksjoner alle sammen.
De fleste er gamle trebåter - men vi finner
og gamle stålbåter helt tilbake fra
1880-årene. Plastbåter, det finner du ikke mange
av i denne forsamlingen, nei.
Årets temautstilling omhandler trelastfarten
som haugesundske skip drev frem til 1970-årene. 32 forskjellige rederier
fra vårt distrikt fraktet trelast fra russiske havner i Kvitsjøen
og Sibir, eller fra finske havner i Bottenviken.

The next festival of August has started.
The official start day is Friday, but they make a false already Thursday
afternoon when many of the boats arrive through Smedasundet in a convoy.
This year app. 55 boats graciously came from south
into the Inner quay area, lead by the former, newly
restored harbor boat, where they they
moored to be part of an exhibition with old tree and steel boats, some
of them as old as from the 1880's.
The theme of this years exhibition is the
extensive activity of more than 30 different local shipowner companies
in transporting timber from northers Russia and Finland to the markets
in Europe until the 1970's.
