Haraldshaugen, innviet 1872. Til minne
om Harald Hårfargres rikssamling ved slaget i Hafrsfjord i 872. Reist
her, fordi man mener ( mente ) han er hauglagt på denne plassen etter
sin død i 933. Snorre forteller om en kirke her, restene var fremdeles
synlige når man bygget det, men de ble skjult av monumentet.
English:
The Haraldshaugen monument was erected
in 1872. It is a memorial of the unified Norway after the battle of Hafrsfjord
in 872. The king that won the battle, Harald Hairfair, is said to have
been buried here after his death in 933. The nordic cronicler Snorre writes
about a church here. The remains of this church were visible until the
monument was built on top of it.
