Vår Frelsers gravlund
I dag, på nyttårsaften 2000,
fikk vi endelig et minnesmerket over Haugesundsjøfolk som er blitt
borte på havet. Og nok en gang står Lasse
Skjoldal og Bjørn Toft i spissen
for en lokal begivenhet. En verdig minnestund, som ble innledet med gudstjeneste
i kapellet på Vår Frelsers gravlund, ble avsluttet ved at monumentet,
som består av en 9 meter stor skipspropell
og en minneplate, ble avduket med et par hundre
mennesker tilstede. På minneplaten står det: "Noen ble berget,
mange ble ..... . . "
English:
Today, a large ships propellar became
a memorial for 1.200 sailors from more than 200 local ships that are lost
on sea. The propellar itself measures 9 meters,
and is competed as a monument with a signboard
saying: "Some of them were rescued, many were ... . . ". Two local "fighters",
Bjørn
M. Toft and Lasse Skjoldal (right),
got the idea of using this propellar, and have been working hard
to make the memorial possible.
