Like under Risøybroen ligger Ballastkaien.
Her lå stålskipene i opplag når jeg var ung. Spesiellt
husker jeg de store fortøyningsbøyene midt i sundet. En av
disse er nå plassert på kaien - til minne om svunne tider,
og som en del av Ola Flytt-parken.
Fremdeles er Ballastkaien opplagsplass
- i hvert fall om høst og vinter. For ellers i året syder
kaien av småbåtliv og bølgeskvulpt fra masser av båter
som sommerstid passerer gjennom Smedasundet. Men nå er det høst
og stille her.

Just beneath the Risøy bridge we
find Ballastkaien. Years ago, this place in the Smedasundet area was used
for laid-up ships. Myself, I especially remember the large mooring buoy's.
One of them is kept as a sculpture in the Ola Flytt park here on the Ballastkai.
It is still used for laying up boats, at
least in the late fall and winter time. In the warmer parts of the year,
lots of small, private boats moore here, making it a lively place, as the
boats are frequently used. But now - fall time makes it quiet here:
