Buo heter plassen. Navnet har det etter
den første handelsmannen på stedet, Tor Buo som egentlig het
Tor Johannesen Hetland. Kallenavnet fikk han mens han drev handel fra ei
sjøbu i Apalvik. Senere, like før århundreskiftet,
anla han imidlertid kai og bygget ny butikk her under Eikehaugen på
Innbjoa. Dette la grunnlaget for mange års
aktivitet, med poståpneri, dampskipsanløp, sildesalteri
og hospitsdrift i tillegg til butikkvirksomheten. Poståpneriet ble
nedlagt i 1975. Butikken finner vi fremdeles
her, men ellers har det vært stille i noen år på dette
idylliske stedet nord vest på Bjoahalvøya.
Nå er det ting på gang. Bjoafolket
satser sterkt på å få etablert ny næringsvirksomhet
for å sikre bosetting og utvikling av lokalsamfunnet. Bl.a. har Spindelveven
Internett, et av selskapene bak dette nettstedet, etablert seg her. Nå
skal vi redesignes og videreutvikles i naturskjønne omgivelser.
Resultatene vil dere se etterhvert.

Buo in Innbjoa
This scenic place is called Buo. It has
its name after the merchant who built the place and established it (1896)
as an active trade centre with postoffice, hospice,
call by the costal steamer and herring industry in addition to the grocery
shop. Today the place is quiet, but well kept,
with the shop still open.
But - things are about to happen. To assure
growth and prosperity in the area, the Bjoa people work hard to establish
new activity. And - one of the companies behind this site, Spindelveven
Internett, has moved from Haugesund to establish Internet based activity
in these scenic surroundings. Actually, the new technical solutions and
redesign of this site will be done in these buildings, while the editorial
office will be kept in Haugesund. Wait and see!
