| Fra 1626 til 1858 sto det en
tømmerkirke på tomten vest for og vis a vis dagens Skåre
kirke.
steinkirken ville nok blitt bevart i dag.
English:
From 1626 until 1858, an old timber church
was situated on the site just west of the Skåre church of today.
But - this was not the first church on the mainlandside in our district.
Already at the time of the famous nordic chronicler Snorre Sturlason, he
reported about an old stone church (1250). When building the Haraldshaug
monument in 1871-72, the remains of this church were hidden by the monument.
In the late 1800, keeping old remains was not common. Today, both the old
Skåre church, and the remains of the old stone church would have
been preserved.
But - the old church was in a bad shape
when it was replaced by the new one in 1858. Late the same year (new year),
the tower was broken down in a storm.
Today the site of the old church is kept
as a green spot on Hauge. Some old graves, mainly from the time just after
removing the old church, reminds us of the former days - in many ways.
