 Nyttårsaften
og jubileumstart
Så ble
det jubileum- allikevel. Hvorfor sier jeg
det? Jo - det har versert diskusjoner helt
til det siste om dette er rette tid å feire
på. For vi feirer ikke at Haugesund fikk
bystatus, som de gjorde da vi ble Kjøpstad
i 1866, men at vi ble egen kommune og Ladested
i 1854. Selv mener jeg at det er rett å
feire nå, for statusen som ladested var
overgangen fra en samling hus langs sundet til
offisiell status som handelsted med mulighet
til å utvikle et samfunn som endte opp med
dagens by og regionsenter.
Byjubileet
har vært forberedt lenge, og det meste er
klart. Rådhusplassen har fått et nytt preg
gjennom montering av jubileumsbannere som
skal stå hele året gjennom. Arrangementene
kommer på løpende bånd, og starter allerede
i kveld med stort festarrangement på rådhusplassen
og byens hittil flotteste fyrverkeri - skutt
opp Hønå på syd-Risøy slik at det passer
best å se det fra nettopp festplassen
foran Rådhuset.

24 var nedtellingen gjort, showet unnagjort,
og fyrverkeriet
startet. Da oppdaget jeg at plasseringen
min ikke var spesiellt egnet til å
ta bilder fra. Lykkeligvis var fotografen
Bjarne Sætrang glimrende plassert. Så: Godt
nytt år - med flott bilde av Haugesund,
Smedasundet, og et
glimt av det flotte fyrverkeriet.
 New
years eve - and jubilee start
Then
we are ready for the jubilee - in spite
of a discussion about the right event to
celebrate - the establishment of the community
Haugesund in 1954 (as a Ladested) - or that
we became a town (or kjøpstad) in 1866.
I feel that this is the right time
to celebrate the first 150. And it will
be so! For one whole year, with start this
very evening at the town hall square, this
small coast town will be even more joyful
than usual.
At the
town hall square a large stage is made ready
for the opening ceremony this evening -
New years eve of 2003. Flags and banners
are marking the event, end will keep on
doing that throughout the jubilee year 2004.
The celebration
starts with a multi media - and stage show
- and at 12PM - the most spectacular fireworks
ever in Haugesund - if the weather permits
it - forecasts say strong (hopefully not
to strong ) wind.
AT 12PM the show
and countdown was finished and the
fireworks could start. But then I saw that
where I stood just then was totally wrong
for taking the pictures I wanted. Happily
for us, the photographer Bjarne Sætrang
was at the right place to take this
exellent picture, showing Haugesund
with Smedasund and a glimps of the fine
fireworks that started off the jubilee year
2004.
