 Spennende byvandring gjennom gamle postkort
En samler
er gjerne historisk interessert. Samler man frimerker, mynter, bøker
eller antikviteter – historieinteressen ligger i bunn. Men få
samleobjekter gir et bedre historisk bilde – i dobbelt forstand –
enn postkort. Første
tredjedel av 1900-tallet var en gullalder for postkortutgivere. Ved
reiser, store begivenheter, jubileer og høytider ble
postkortet brukt som kommunikasjonsmiddel.
På
den tiden tok man også vare på postkortene. Derfor finnes
en rekke store samlinger kort fra 1900 til 1930-årene. Ved å
sortere og systematisere slike samlinger, kan man lage
lokalhistoriske oversikter som denne boken er blitt.
”Hilsen
fra Haugesund – En byvandring gjennom gamle postkort” – er et
utvalg fra den trolig største samling Haugesundkort som
eksisterer. Samlingen tilhører Arne Andersen fra
fastlands-Karmøy. I tillegg har vi også fått mange
interessante bidrag fra haugesunderen Dag Erling Vestvik. Til sammen
utgjør dette en unik vandring i Haugesunds gater og bydeler,
fra første del av forrige århundre.
Postkortmotivene
er stedfestet etter beste evne. Dette er basert på egne
kunnskaper, opplysninger gjennom tidligere bokutgivelser og
gatevandring i dagens Haugesund. Vi har dessuten forsøkt å
tidfeste motivene så godt som mulig. Dette er dels gjort
gjennom påtrykt datering på postkortet eller poststempel.
Feil forekommer helt sikkert, og vi setter pris på
korrigeringer. Med tanke på utflyttede haugesundere, også
i utlandet, er beskrivelser oversatt til engelsk.
”Hilsen
fra Haugesund” utgis i anledning byens 150-års jubileum. Vi
håper boken kan være med på å ivareta
Haugesunds historie på en oversiktlig og interessant måte.

A
collector is readily interested in history. If one collects stamps,
coins,books or antiques; the history lies behind it. Only a few
collectors’ items give a better historical picture-in double
meaning- than postcards.
The
first part of 1900 was a golden age for postcardpublishers. By
travel, large events, jubilees and solemn occasions, the postcard was
used as a method of communications. During this time people took care
of their postcards. Therefore large collections exists of cards from
1900 to the 1930`s. By sorting and systematically arranging such
collections you can make local history as in this book.
“Greetings
from Haugesund”- a walk through ancient postcards – is a
selection from possibly the largest collection of Haugesund cards
that exists. The collection belongs to Arne Andersen from the
mainland, Karmøy. In addition we have received many
interesting contributions from Haugesund inhabitant Dag Erling
Vestvik. All together this makes a unique walk through Haugesunds
streets & suburbs, from first part of last century.
The
locations of the postcards are authentically identified to our best.
This is based on own knowledge, information from previous published
books and street walking in today’s Haugesund. Furthermore we have
tried to ascertain the age of the cards as best as possible. This is
done from looking at any printed date or postmark from the cards.
Mistakes are certain to occur, and we appreciate any feedback so that
these faults can be rectified. Captions have been translated into
English, in recognition to the people who have moved from Haugesund,
also those who have emigrated abroad.
“Greetings
from Haugesund” is published at the occasion of the town’s 150
years anniversary. We hope the book will contribute to maintaining
Haugesund`s history in a transparent and interesting way.
