Så
har den startet. Vi har fått London direkte.
Det irske flyselskapet Ryanair, som startet
eventyret for Torp ved Sandefjord, har satset
på Haugesund-London som sin neste norske aktivitet,
og første tur gikk 30/4-2003. En daglig sen
ettermiddagsavgang er det vi har til rådighet
nå fra starten av. Så vil tiden vise hvor ivrige
vi er etter å benytte dette tilbudet fra Europas
mest sukkessrike flyselskap.
Haugesund
Avis hevdet nylig at Ryanair har solgt 15.000
biletter (enkeltturer) allerede før ruten starter,
og det lover vel godt for mulighetene til å
lykkes. Men Ryanair vil få det tøffere i årene
som kommer. De tradisjonelle flyselskapene følger
opp og etablerer sine egne lavprisede konsepter.
Til
og med SAS
er i ferd med sitt nye konsept, kalt Snowflakes.
Ryanair
satser mye på max-utnyttelse av flyparken, og
at man ikke kaster bort tiden mens man står
på flyplassene. 25 minutter er alt de skal trenge
- fra landing til avgang. Og
handling-agenten Coast air greide jobben,
ettersom flyet var klart fra deres side 25 minutter
etter landing. Da var alle passasjerer og all
bagesje på plass. At det ble en forsinkelse,
skyldtes sikkert litt ekstra festivitas akkurat
denne dagen. Ganske nøyaktig en time etter ankomst,
var
første fly på vingene,
og satte kurs mot syd-sydvest.

 First departure
of the new direct London connection
It
is up, running. The new direct connection
from Haugesund airport, Karmøy to the UK capitol
London and Stansted airport, 45 min. with train
north of central London, had its first
departure April 30. This connection is an alternative
to the more traditional ways of travelling -
via Oslo or Bergen. If arriving from USA with
SAS or other traditional airlines, you change
gate and airplane in London and Oslo to go to
Haugesund. If using Ryanair, you must transport
yourself and your luggage with taxi or express
train from Heathrow to Stansted, the main Ryanair
airport in Europe. But you pay less for your
ticket.
So
far Ryanair has been very succesful, offering
budget flights to millions. In the future, they
will have competition. The traditional airline
companies, including
SAS with their new Snowflakes, are
undergoing a change of their strategies after
having observed Ryanairs and other budget airliners
success. They learned the consept from US Southwest
airlines.
From
landing to new departure, Ryanair claims
they need 25 minutes only. They keep their
airplanes flying more hours a day than the traditional
companies. The local handling company on Helganes,
Coast air,
finished luggage and passenger boarding in 25
min, even this first time. We wish them
luck, and hope they can establish their
offers as a permanent service - putting
Haugesund, Haugalandet, Ryfylke and Sunnhordland
on the map as a tourist market in the future.
This
very first departure was delayed a bit, due
to festivities in the terminal building. But
when they left, with lots of invited guest onboard,
they started another try with direct connections
from our airport. We
wish them good luck.
