Johanne Karine
Built 1854 and fully restored, Johanne Karine has been a part of Haugesund for many years now. Summer time, you can experience it for shorter og longer trips, including harbor tours on Thursdays and as a "ferry" to Vibrandsøy, on Saturdays. Vinbrandsøy is  the rural hike island just 5 min from the Inner quay, and the north western part of central Haugesund (just "a spit" west of Hasseløy).

Festivals / Tourist Info

The site guide has been updated with many of the local 2010 summer activities and festivals.

Even if it has been a colder May so far than most people can remember before, the  lawns grow  and the leaves are green. But the celebration day, May 17, ended up as fine as  it can be.

Mai igjen

Det er blitt mai igjen. Første mai ! I går var det tåke. I dag skinner solen, og "gammeldags" nordavind skaper skikkelig Haugesundstemning.
It is  May again. The first of May! Yesterday we had fog. Today, a nasty and cold northern wind give us that typical Haugesund feeling. The flag is due to the first of May, an official flag day here in Norway.

April 2010

Sorry. Busy days and a visit abroad are the reasons for few fresh glimpses from home in April 2010.

Ny rekord? (19 des-16 mars).
Snow  is gone, after almost 3 months. The last remains melted app March 16.

Helt sikkert flotte skiforhold i Byheiene til helgen. //
Thursday Feb 25, we had snow all day. See pictures under Haugesund Today in right margin, check the actual date.

(Klikk her) Søk f.eks. på Haugesund, Karmøy osv. // Our local museum has a large collection of old photos, and have started the job of digitalizing them. Vinter

2. Februar: Det har snødd mye mer. Se 6 bilder under Haugesund Today ( høyre marg). More snow has fallen. Check February 2 for 6 pictures.

Regionens nye TV-kanal

En entusiastisk gjeng med lokale mediafolk har startet en WebTV-kanal som fokuserer aktuelle tema og hendelser i byen og regionen vår. sebyen.no (means: see the town)  is a new, modern web TV channel with a local focus  on the Haugesund region.

For the first time in "decades", we have had freezing temperatures for more than a month. That means: safe ice on all local lakes - and lots of ice based activity. See pictures in right margin.

Vestlandsbussens historie

Norw. text article about the Vestlandsbussen project from 1932 on, in many ways leading to the present Haukeli express bus service.  Lots of old bus and truck pictures.

Winter since Dec 19, 2009

12 jan 2010: Bildet viser snømåking tidlig morgen på Vormedal søndag 20. des 2009. Siden har vi hatt snø og kulde.
Early morning on Vormedal (just south of the town), Sunday, December 20. Since then we have had winter.

This site is a "one man show". When the actual man is busy in his office all day long, and days are short as well, he don't see light enough to shoot a daylight picture. Today, Monday January 6. is the coldest I can remember here in my beloved home town, Haugesund.  It may very well be even worse. (a couple of early morning street sceneries in right margin)

Haugesund blir ladested
